Governor Of DIY Letters Regent/Mayor To Prevent Street Crime

YOGYAKARTA - Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X wrote to all regents/mayors to immediately take various efforts to prevent street crimes from re-emerging in their area.

"Considering recent events which show that street crime is rampant again, resulting in fatalities, we ask you to take steps," the Sultan wrote in a letter to regents/mayors throughout DIY as reported by Antara, Friday, April 8.

The letter Number 050/5082 regarding the Prevention and Handling of Street Crimes is dated April 7, 2022 and is urgent in nature.

The Sultan asked for a number of steps, namely first, involving community leaders, religious leaders, the head of LPMK, villages, RW, RT, PKK, and Karang Taruna to disseminate information to residents about the importance of every family knowing the whereabouts of their family members.

The Sultan instructed local governments to be able to initiate positive and beneficial activities for youth.

He asked that environmental patrols by involving linmas and community guard movements be reactivated.

Next, the regents/mayors were asked to cooperate with the TNI/Polri to improve monitoring of mass movements that were still active until after midnight.

Finally, budgeting activities for prevention and handling of street crimes in the district/city APBD.

Previously reported, a student in the Special Region of Yogyakarta died after being hit by a sharp object by a street criminal on Jalan Gedongkuning, Yogyakarta City, Sunday (3/4).

The victim was rushed to the Hardjolukito Hospital by an officer from the Directorate of Sabhara Polda DIY who was on patrol, but his life could not be saved.

Then on Thursday (7/4) early in the morning the police managed to thwart a street crime planned by two groups of teenagers in Banguntapan District, Bantul.

From the group of teenagers, the police secured evidence, including a modified motorcycle gear using a yellow self-defense belt, a black "stick knob" 53 cm long, and two motorcycles.
