JAKARTA - The Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo, visited the Maimun Palace on Jalan Brigjen Katamso Medan, North Sumatra. Ganjar toured historical places that had been visited by former 1st Indonesian President Bung Karno and 2nd former Indonesian President Suharto.

"It turns out that Bung Karno has been here before, and several presidents have also been here. He was shown some of his photos during his visit, and how every president at that time always communicated with regional kings. That's great," said Ganjar in his statement, Friday, April 8.

Maimun Palace is a historical icon of Medan City, which stores various historical stories from the time of the entry of Islamic civilization, Dutch colonialism, to independence.

One of the historical landmarks at Maimun Palace is the Puntung Meriam, which witnessed the birth of the forerunner of the Islamic Kingdom of the Deli Sultanate in Medan City, North Sumatra.

On this occasion, Ganjar said that the Maimun Palace as a heritage must be preserved. Therefore, Ganjar pushed for the Maimun Palace to be revitalized.

"The building as a heritage is still very good, it feels like it needs to be revitalized. Mr. Mayor (Medan) Bobby Nasution said he is ready to revitalize, I think this is a very good place," said Ganjar.

After looking around Maimun Palace, Ganjar took the time to buy one of the original woven skullcaps made by the palace.

"If things related to values that still have art, crafts such as this copy can be produced, people can access it, this will be interesting," said Ganjar.

"This can also be seen from the traditional clothes, the fabrics, made with high techniques, using special skills," continued Ganjar.
