JAKARTA - The Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, and ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ordered the payment of bonuses for owners of Emirati taxi license plates used by Dubai Taxi Company and taxi franchise companies.

Citing Gulf News April 2, the total bonus to be distributed is 12.82 million dirhams, or equivalent to IDR 50,179,370,904 to holders of 2,565 taxi license plates in the Emirates.

The Dubai Government Media Office tweeted that the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will begin distributing the 2021 bonus to eligible recipients, in addition to their annual dues, during Ramadan, which starts on Saturday.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chair of the RTA Board of Executive Directors, thanked Sheikh Mohammed, regarding the awarding of bonuses to taxi plate owners.

"This bonus is a testament to the Dubai Ruler's commitment to ensuring the well-being of all walks of life and enhancing their happiness and quality of life," said Al Tayer.

"The annual bonus is also one of His Majesty's various social initiatives during the Holy Month of Ramadan. The bonus will improve the financial well-being of fixed income recipients and families from disadvantaged sections of society," he continued.

According to The National News, each driver who owns a Dubai taxi number plate will receive 5,000 dirhams or around Rp. 19,563,107, which will be distributed by the Road and Transport Authority.

"In addition to increasing their well-being and happiness, this initiative also contributes to increasing social solidarity," concluded Al Tayer.
