PONTIANAK - The number of hotspots in West Kalimantan has decreased significantly after moderate to heavy rains flushed most of the regencies and cities in the province in the last two days. -Pontianak received in Pontianak, Thursday 7 April, the number of hotspots in the West Kalimantan region remains four after the rains. "Today there were four hotspots monitored by BMKG Supadio based on LAPAN data from April 6 at 07.00 WIB to April 7 07.00 WIB," said BMKG forecaster Supadio-Pontianak Slamet. BMKG Supadio-Pontianak recorded the number of hotspots in West Kalimantan, which on Sunday April 3 were 408 reduced to 112 hotspots on Monday (4/4) and increased again to 133 hotspots on Tuesday 5 April. On Wednesday 6 April the number of hotspots was reduced substantially to 22 and on Thursday there were only four hotspots, three a in Mempawah Regency and one in Ketapang. Slamet explained that hotspots usually appear during periods of rain and maximum sunshine lasts a long time. When there is maximum sunlight and less cloud cover, he continued, the weather becomes hot and dry, and when long-lasting conditions such as these can trigger forest and land fires. "Rain in a number of districts/cities in West Kalimantan in the last two days has greatly impacted on reducing the number of hotspots in West Kalimantan," he said.
