Kemendikbudristek Cultural Heritage Data Throughout Indonesia

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) records cultural heritage assets throughout Indonesia to be synchronized with digital platforms to support the management of cultural heritage data.

"Currently we are developing a digitalization asset management platform," said Director of Cultural Protection at the Ministry of Education and Culture, Irini Dewi Wanti in a discussion entitled "Creation, Taste, and Intention for the Advancement of Culture" in Jakarta, Wednesday, April 6.

According to him, the digital platform will, among other things, contain data on names, descriptions, values, and locations of cultural heritage.

"At present it is difficult to detect cultural heritage objects, but with the existence of this platform, it is easier to detect their existence," he said.

He also stated the importance of active participation from the community, government institutions, and the private sector in collecting data on cultural heritage objects.

"If people have cultural heritage objects, don't hesitate to report them to the local cultural office. Later, the local government will conduct an assessment of whether the objects are cultural heritage objects or not," he said.

"If it is a cultural heritage, then the region can submit it to the Kemendikbudristek to be re-examined whether it can be included in the category of national cultural heritage," he added.

He said that efforts to preserve cultural heritage and promote culture require the synergy of the relevant stakeholders.

"Of course a good synergy is needed between these stakeholders by implementing the four pillars of strategic efforts through protection, development, utilization, and guidance as mandated by Law No. 5 of 2017 concerning the Promotion of Culture," he said.
