YOGYAKARTA - Yogyakarta City Government launched the "Waspada" application that allows the public to participate in monitoring local taxes.
"The report is submitted online," said Head of the Sub-Section for Determination of the Regional Financial and Asset Management Agency (BPKAD) for the City of Yogyakarta, Muhamad Rohmat Romadhon, in Yogyakarta, Tuesday, April 5.
Thus, continued Rohmat, supervision of taxpayer compliance is not only carried out by local governments but also the community.
People who want to report must first download the Jogja Smart Service (JSS) application and register then select the "Alert" menu to report the obedience of business actors in paying taxes.
Business actors included in the "Alert" surveillance program are hotels, restaurants, parking, and entertainment.
He said the public could upload a photo of the transaction evidence or a note that displays the business actor's taxpayer number, transaction value, and the value of the tax that has been paid.
"The public can report if the memorandum does not include a taxpayer number or additional tax value to be paid. Later we will verify and check," he said.
Rohmat said that public participation in regional tax supervision is very important so that every business actor obeys the obligation to pay taxes. "Who knows, the transactions reported by the public have not been included in the tax calculation. So, we can collect them," he said.
BPKAD, he continued, will socialize the "Alert" tax supervision to business actors so that they understand that tax control is also carried out by the public.
"So, it is hoped that business actors will understand and then understand these supervisory activities so that they are obedient to paying taxes," he said.
He said that to increase the public's interest in being involved in monitoring local taxes, the Yogyakarta City BPKAD prepared prizes to be drawn.
"From now on, we can report. Later we will close the reporting period in October 2022 and then draw lots. There will be prize money with a total value of Rp. 20 million," he said.
Meanwhile, Yogyakarta City BPKAD Head Wasesa hopes that the "Alert" tax oversight can support the optimization of local tax revenues, especially for hotel, restaurant, entertainment and parking taxes.
"Hopefully, taxpayers will be more tax-compliant and local tax revenues will be more optimal. However, it is actually consumers who pay the tax. Business actors just need to continue to local government," he said.
