Police Investigate Cause Of Suzuya Mall Banda Aceh Fire

BANDA ACEH - Police officers are investigating the cause of the fire at the Suzuya Mall Banda Aceh shopping center.

Head of Criminal Investigation at the Banda Aceh Police, Kompol Muhammad Ryan Citra Yudha, said the fire that burned Suzuya Mall came from the third floor. Police do not yet know the cause of the fire.

"The cause is still unknown. But later we will try to investigate, by examining witnesses and coordinating," said Riyan in Banda Aceh as reported by Antara, Monday, April 4.

His party has started to install police lines in the Suzuya Mall area. Firefighters are still trying to completely extinguish the fire.

He says fire has started to go out. However, at some points there are still embers that have the potential to cause a large fire, so firefighters continue to struggle to extinguish it.

"Until now, Alhamdulillah, the fire has started to be extinguished. Maybe there are still some smoke spots, there is the potential for the fire to re-occur and watering is still being done," he said.

Reports from the mall management, said Ryan, the fire burned the third and second floors. The goods on the third floor are said to have been sold out. The fire spread to the second floor, but not all merchandise on this floor caught fire.

"Currently, we are giving the firefighters time to extinguish the fire in this mall. Later we will check for sure the items that are burning," he said.

For the time being, Ryan said, there were no casualties or residents trapped in the biggest shopping center building in Banda Aceh due to the fire incident.

Police and related officers have also combed the scene to ensure that there are no fatalities and residents trapped in the building.

"This provisional report that no one is trapped, there are also no casualties, only material losses and it has not been calculated how many everything," he said.

The Banda Aceh Fire and Rescue Service (DPKP) said there were around 10 firefighters and 65 firefighters from Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar who were deployed to extinguish the fire.

"The fire was on and off. After being extinguished, a few minutes later, the fire rekindled," said Head of the Banda Aceh DPKP Firefighters Development and Development Section, Yudi.
