The Story Behind The Construction Of The At Taufiq Mosque In Lenteng Agung

JAKARTA - Baitul Muslimin Indonesia (Bamusi) held a series of events to welcome Ramadan 1443 Hijriah.

General Secretary of PP Bamusi Nasyirul Falah Amru Falah explained that the series of activities was held based on instructions from PDI-P General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri and DPR Chair Puan Maharani.

Megawati and Puan have always paid attention to Muslims. This can be seen, one of which is the construction of the At Taufiq Mosque.

As the name implies, the At Taufiq Mosque was initiated and built by Puan Maharani to commemorate her late father, Taufiq Kiemas. However, the mosque was also built so that Muslims around the location could have additional representative places of worship.

The mosque was built right at the PDI-Perjuangan DPP Party School, in Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta. The laying of the first stone or groundbreaking as a sign of the start of the construction of the At Taufiq Mosque was carried out on June 8 2018, to coincide with the five years of the death of the late Taufiq Kiemas.

Puan stated that the construction of the mosque was her initiative. Some time after Taufiq Kiemas died, Puan conveyed her idea to her mother, Megawati Soekarnoputri.

"I told my mother, this is in front of the office usually for parking and the bazaar. I suggest why not build a mosque here," said Puan in a written statement, Saturday, April 2.

Megawati immediately agreed. Puan finally executed the construction of the mosque in the hope that it would not only be a place of worship, but also be used for various social activities.

"Because at this time, the prayer room (around the location) is not enough to accommodate. Also, for example during the Eid prayer, I see that it is not representative. That's why I conveyed this to Mrs. Mega. ," explained Puan during the mosque's groundbreaking event in 2018.

Now the At Taufiq Mosque has stood firmly on Jalan Raya Lenteng Agung and is managed by Baitul Muslimin Indonesia.

The 1st floor of the At Taufiq Mosque has a large hall that can accommodate up to 500 people. The hall can be used for various social activities, including wedding receptions. Then, the prayer room is on the 2nd floor of the mosque.

The mosque has also become a mainstay for local residents to worship and as a place to hold social events.

In June 2021, the mosque was also used as a tahlilan event to commemorate the eighth anniversary of the death of the late Taufiq Kiemas.

"At that time, my mother and my two brothers thought, what can we give to the late Mr. Taufiq Kiemas so that his charity and services can be useful," he continued.

Puan also hopes that the At Taufiq Mosque can become a place of worship and activities for residents of Lenteng Agung and its surroundings. "God willing, this mosque will be useful for all of us," continued Puan.
