6 Houses In Ilir Barat II Palembang Burned Down

PALEMBANG - A total of six houses on Jalan Ki Gede Ing Suro, Lorong Familidin, Kelurahan 32 Ilir, Ilir Barat II District, Palembang City, South Sumatra (Sumsel) were burnt down.

The six houses consisted of two wooden houses on stilts ornate typical of Palembang and four rented houses, all of which were completely burned to the ground.

The Head of Ilir Barat II Palembang Police, AKP Muhammad Ihsan, said that based on the information they had gathered, the fire was suspected to have originated from an electrical short circuit.

His personnel along with the Palembang Polrestabes Labfor team have been dispatched to the scene of the incident to determine the cause of the fire, which has an estimated total loss of up to Rp800 million.

"There were no casualties in this incident," he said.

One of the fire victims, W (30), said that it was not clear what caused the fire, but some of them believed the fire was caused by a short circuit in the electricity supply from one of the rented houses there.

"Some said the electricity was short, but I don't know exactly because I was in a rented house. Suddenly someone shouted fire. I immediately went out, knowing the fire was behind, this afternoon around 15.30 WIB," he said.

He hopes to get help to alleviate the calamity that local residents are experiencing from the government or other communities.

“In the meantime, we have fled to relatives' homes, almost all of our belongings have not been saved. If he gets help his condition will be better, he said.

The fire was successfully extinguished at around 17.20 WIB, Friday, April 1 after six units of fire engines from the Palembang City Government and Ilir Barat II District were deployed.
