Coordinating Minister For Human Development And Culture: Terawan Has A Health Innovation Breakthrough

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy assessed the figure of former Health Minister Terawan Agus Putranto as having a great calling to make breakthroughs and innovations in the world of health.

This statement was made by Muhadjir in response to the recommendation of the Honorary Council for Medical Ethics (MKEK) to permanently dismiss former Health Minister Terawan Agus Putranto from being a member of the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI).

Muhadjir considered that the recommendation for dismissal was a bit excessive. The reason is that the problem should have been resolved through consultation.

"The Minister of Health has spoken with me about the steps to be taken. We will follow up later," he said in a written statement quoted by Antara, Friday, April 1 evening.

The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture said that he had met the Chairman of the IDI who had just been inaugurated through the IDI's XXXI Mukernas in Aceh, Adib Khumaidi.

"So, both of them (IDI and Dr Terawan) have the same goal. IDI has the responsibility to uphold the professional code of ethics, Pak Terawan has a calling to make breakthroughs and innovations. Only, maybe the level of meetings that are not intensive will then become a problem prolonged," he said.

Based on the explanation obtained, said Muhadjir, IDI is open in principle and will try to find common ground regarding the alleged violation of the code of ethics that befell Terawan.

The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture hopes that IDI can still enforce discipline for its members but can also provide opportunities for innovations and breakthroughs initiated and initiated by its members.

"Breakthroughs and innovations are very important, so that Indonesian medical science does not stagnate. If no one makes innovation breakthroughs, we are worried that the program to accelerate transformation in the health sector will stagnate. The development of Indonesian medical science and practice could be far behind," he said.

The Honorary Council for Medical Ethics (MKEK) recently recommended the dismissal of former Health Minister Terawan Agus Putranto from the membership of the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) at the IDI Congress held in Banda Aceh on Friday (25/3).

This is not the first time the MKEK has imposed a dismissal sanction on Terawan. In 2018, a temporary dismissal decision was also circulated because Terawan was considered to have violated the medical code of ethics through his brainwashing method.
