GORONTALO - The North Gorontalo Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), Gorontalo, appealed to Muslims to maintain tolerance regarding differences in the beginning of fasting 1 Ramadan 1443 Hijriyah.
Member of Commission II DPRD Gorontalo Utara, Gustam Ismail said the government had set 1 Ramadan 1443 Hijryah to fall on Sunday, April 3, 2022, while Muhammadiyah set April 2.
The government's decision was based on the results of the itsbat session to determine the beginning of the fasting month of Ramadan.
Gustam said differences in fasting on 1 Ramadan 1443 Hijriyah cannot be avoided and this is not the first time this has happened, so tolerance is needed.
"Considering that this year some Muslims in this area, although there are not many in number, have carried out 1 Ramadan, tarawih on Friday (1 April 2022), some are running it on Saturday (2 April 2022). However, the government's version of fasting will be carried out on Sunday , April 3, 2022," he said as reported by Antara, Friday, April 1.
The difference, according to him, need not be questioned. "We uphold tolerance for this view," he said.
He hopes that all Muslims are able to maintain the integrity of religious communities and inter-religious people by respecting differences.
"We from this institution (DPRD) hope that the whole community will continue to maintain regional harmony and peace," continued Gustam.
He also hoped that the community would maintain order and regional security in the face of religious holidays, especially this year's Ramadan.
The DPRD, he said, wished all Muslims a happy fasting worship of Ramadan 1443 Hijriyah.
Gustam hopes that this year's Ramadan can be run well, full of joy and optimism and continue to apply health protocols to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We are taking care of the well-established religious and inter-religious harmony, starting from Tombulilato Village at the eastern end of this district, to Cempaka Putih Village at the western end," said Gustam.
