JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo asked the regional leadership communication forum (Forkopimda) to oversee the distribution of cooking oil in their respective regions to ensure its availability for the community during the month of Ramadan. The four-star general predicts an increase in the need for basic commodities during Ramadan, especially cooking oil. This should be anticipated so that there is no shortage or price increase that can make it difficult for the community.

"Moreover, we will soon enter the Holy Month of Ramadan where the demand for basic necessities, especially cooking oil, will increase from normal days," said Sigit in a written statement received in Jakarta, Friday, April 1.

The former Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police asked that there should not be a shortage of cooking oil supplies, especially bulk oil on the market. With the escort that is carried out, it can immediately follow up if there are distribution barriers to the community.

"From the available information, in terms of production, it should be sufficient. But it must be checked whether the distribution is carried out optimally so that there is no difficulty in getting the oil in the market," said Sigit.

In addition, Sigit also asked for an active role from traders to report or inform police officers or related parties if there were obstacles to the distribution of cooking oil to the market.

He said that ensuring the availability of bulk cooking oil for the community would have implications for the selling price of cooking oil, so that people could get cooking oil in accordance with the highest retail price (HET) set by the government.

For that, continued Sigit, the National Police in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Trade deploy personnel to carry out monitoring and supervision from producers, distributors to markets.

"So that its availability will be guaranteed for the needs of the community," he said.

Sigit also appealed to the public not to panic or worry about the availability of food, because the government has prepared steps to ensure the basic needs of the community.

This appeal was conveyed by Sigit when conducting a direct review of the availability and stability of cooking oil prices at Lemabang Market, Palembang, South Sumatra.

During the visit, the former Banten Police Chief received a report that bulk cooking oil in the market was available to meet the needs of the community.

“Yesterday's sales were 2,500 liters. Now it's 5,000 liters. Earlier, we checked with the producers, this week they can produce approximately 120 tons a day," said Sigit.

Sigit also hopes that existing producers and distributors will accelerate distribution to meet the increasing needs of the community during Ramadan.

"We hope this week can be maximized and bulk oil is really on the market and people can easily get it," said Sigit.
