JAKARTA - The Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) survey shows that only 5 percent of Indonesians support the idea of a three-term presidential term.

The results of SMRC's latest survey entitled "Public Attitudes towards Election Delays" were conveyed by SMRC Research Director Deni Irvani on the SMRC TV YouTube channel, Friday, as quoted by Antara in a press release, Friday, April 1

Deni said that the majority of residents (73 percent) believed that the provision for a maximum term of two presidents should be maintained.

"Only 15 percent believe that the provision must be changed," said Deni.

Of the 15 percent who think the president's term should be changed, 61 percent (or about 9 percent of the total population) want the president to serve only one term (for 5, 8, or 10 years).

Meanwhile, those who want more than twice (5 years each) are only 35 percent or only about 5 percent of the total population.

Deni added that the opinion of the majority of residents who want to maintain the provision for a maximum of two presidential terms is consistent in 3 surveys, namely in May 2021, September 2021, and March 2022.

"The idea of increasing the term of office of the president is not a common aspiration in the community. Only about 5 percent of the people agree with that view. The public generally wants a president to only serve a maximum of two terms," said Deni.

This survey includes 1,220 respondents who were randomly selected using the stratified multistage random sampling method on the entire population or Indonesian citizens who already have the right to vote, namely those aged 17 years and over or already married.

The response rate (respondents who can be interviewed validly) is 1,027 or 84 percent.

A total of 1,027 respondents were analyzed. The margin of error for the survey with this sample size is estimated at ± 3.12 percent at a 95 percent confidence level (assuming simple random sampling). Face-to-face interviews were conducted from 13 to 20 March 2022.
