Food Prices Rise Ahead Of Ramadan, DKI Provincial Government Reminds Residents Not To Panic Buying

JAKARTA - Assistant for the Economy and Finance of the Jakarta Secretariat, Sri Haryati, predicts that the price of a number of foods will continue to increase ahead of Ramadan.

"Several food commodities are expected to continue to experience an upward trend in prices going forward, in line with the increase in public demand during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, as well as the implications of rising global commodity prices," Sri said in a statement, Tuesday, March 29.

However, Sri asked the public not to panic and buy food in excess (panic buying) so that the availability of food in the market is maintained.

"The DKI Provincial Government also appeals to the public to remain optimistic and not panic in order to maintain the balance of food supply and stock in the market," said Sri.

To maintain the availability of food stocks, the DKI Provincial Government has coordinated with Perum Bulog DKI Jakarta and Banten, Polda Metro Jaya, Bank Indonesia Representative Office DKI Jakarta Province, BUMD DKI Jakarta Province and other relevant agencies since early March.

This coordination will continue. At the beginning of Ramadan, Sri continued, there will also be discussions with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Inflation Controlling Team (TPID).

"From the coordination results, strategic food commodities, namely rice, beef/buffalo, chicken meat, chicken eggs, curly chilies, red cayenne pepper, and garlic are available in sufficient and safe quantities," said Sri.

In ensuring the availability of stocks and supplies, as well as maintaining price stability, the efforts made by the DKI Jakarta Province TPID include monitoring and monitoring prices and strategic food stocks.
