JAKARTA - Secretary of the PPP faction of the DPR RI, Achmad Baidowi, responded to information about the disappearance of the phrase madrasah in the draft revision of the National Education System Law (UU Sisdiknas).

Baidowi explained, in Law number 20 of 2003 concerning the national education system the phrase "Madrasah" has been mentioned several times, namely, General Provisions Article 1 number 25, Article 17 paragraph 2, Article 18 paragraph 3, Article 38 paragraph 2, Article 51 paragraph 1, third part, Article 56 paragraph 1, paragraph 3, paragraph 4, Article 66 paragraph 1.

According to Awiek, Baidowi's nickname, the 2022 National Education System Bill should aim to improve and perfect Law Number 20 of 2003.

"The portion of madrasas which have received less attention from the government, should be given more attention and given good encouragement to further develop their education system, not be removed from the 2022 National Education System Bill," Awiek said in a statement to reporters, Tuesday, March 29.

Furthermore, the Deputy Chair of the DPR RI Baleg explained, according to statistical data on Islamic education from the Ministry of Religion, in 2019/2020 there were 82,418 educational institutions from the RA, MI, MTS and MA levels, with a size of 95.1 percent private. While the state one is only 4.9 percent, while the number of students in the 2019/2020 even semester is 9,450,198 students.

"The government should be grateful and grateful for the existence of educational institutions such as madrasas, because madrasas have helped educate the nation's children with the mandate of Article 31 of the 1945 Constitution," explained Awiek.

Therefore, continued Awiek, the PPP faction reminded the government to finalize the draft National Education System Bill and ensure that the phrase "madrasah" is not removed.

"Because, the information we got was that the revised draft of the National Education System Law did not contain the phrase madrasah. Because eliminating 'madrasah' in the National Education System Bill was a form of discrimination in the world of education," he said.

So far, he added, the facts show that madrasas have a very big role in education in Indonesia. Therefore, the Indonesian people really need the existence of this madrasa and get high trust from the community.

"With the role of madrasas that have been proven to be real in the formation of the nation's generation, madrasas should be given more attention, strengthened and included in the law. Don't even delete them," said the legislator for the East Java Madura electoral district.

Awiek assessed that so far the madrasa education system has been recognized and is running as it should in accordance with Law No. 20 of 2003. If madrasas are not included in the national education system, said Awiek, then these students will be placed.

"Will it be accommodated or transferred to schools outside the madrasa? The existing schools cannot accommodate all the current prospective students," he said.

"That's why, if the phrase madrasah is omitted from the draft National Education System Bill, then the PPP faction rejects the revision of the National Education System Law as a priority prolegnas. This means that there will be no revision," Awiek added.
