JAKARTA - Chairman of the Committee for Handling COVID-19 and National Economic Recovery (KPCPEN) Airlangga Hartarto said that worship activities during the month of Ramadan at mosques were allowed.

The government invites the public to perform the Tarawih and tadarus prayers at the mosque during Ramadan.

According to Airlangga, the permission for activities in places of worship is in accordance with the results of the PPKM evaluation last week. However, the government asked for a number of anticipatory steps that need to be taken to prevent COVID-19 cases from increasing again. One of them is maintaining the implementation of health protocols.

"Ramadan worship activities in mosques have been allowed, therefore it is necessary to take anticipatory steps to increase vigilance," said Airlangga in a statement, Tuesday, March 29.

The Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs asked regional heads and Forkopimda to take steps to anticipate the spread of COVID-19. Among other things, enforce prokes in places of worship, especially during the Tarawih Prayers, tadarus, and Eid prayers.

Local governments are also asked to increase the coverage of full-dose and third-dose or booster vaccinations, especially for the elderly.

"Delivering an explanation to the public and the public that vaccination during Ramadan does not invalidate fasting, in accordance with the MUI Fatwa," said Airlangga.

The General Chair of the Golkar Party added that security forces were also asked to enforce the provisions for going home for Eid in accordance with President Joko Widodo's directives. Namely, the conditions for going home for Eid are complete and booster doses of vaccine or negative results based on an antigen test for travelers.

"Especially travelers with private vehicles, random checks need to be carried out at a number of checkpoints," said Airlangga.

In addition, every regional government is asked to prepare adequate health facilities to anticipate a potential spike in COVID-19 cases post-Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.

According to Airlangga, based on the government's evaluation, Indonesia's effective case reproduction rate (Rt) has improved in all islands, although some are still above 1.

Nationally, the Rt figure was recorded to have fallen to 1.00 or the category of controlled transmission, when compared to the previous week which was still at 1.09.

Daily cases and active cases have also shown a downward trend in all provinces outside Java-Bali. Except in Papua Province which still has not shown a downward trend.

At the Regency/City level, 4 of them still show an increasing trend in the number of active cases, namely Jayapura City, as well as Mimika, Nunukan, and Aceh Besar Regencies.

There are three provinces with the highest active cases. However, the observed bed occupancy ratio (BOR) is still adequate and the COVID-19 TT conversion in hospitals is still low. The three provinces are Papua, Lampung and East Nusa Tenggara.

"The government has decided to extend the PPKM for the next 14 days, from March 29 to April 12, 2022. The criteria for implementing the PPKM level outside Java-Bali are based on the level of the COVID-19 pandemic situation, namely Community Transmission (number of cases, deaths, and hospitalizations) and response capacity (testing, tracing, treatment/BOR)," said Coordinating Minister Airlangga.
