Russian Diplomat: West Needs Ukraine To 'Break Up' Geopolitics Against Russia

JAKARTA - A meeting of the European Council on March 24-25 confirmed that Ukraine remains a territory under Washington's control and a "geopolitical battering ram" against Russia, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a commentary on Monday.

"The outcome of the Council of Europe meeting, convened with the leadership of the United States, confirms once again, the collective West needs a Ukraine that is completely under Washington's control and gripped by Russophobia, only as a geopolitical battering ram against Russia," the diplomat was quoted as saying by TASS 29. According to the diplomat, only the US would benefit from the new anti-Russian sanctions.

"While declaring readiness for new anti-Russian restrictions, Brussels forgot to add, their agreement will only benefit the US, which benefits from capital outflows from the EU, on increasing supplies to the European market of their weapons, as well as liquefied natural gas at astonishing prices," " he added.

"Through their actions, officials in Brussels are actually damaging the economies of EU countries," Zakharova stressed.

"They punished the Europeans with the destruction of socially oriented economic models, for living in conditions of exorbitant electricity and fuel prices, cuts in social payments in favor of the military budget, high inflation and mass unemployment," Zakharova wrote. in his comments.

The diplomat noted that the decision of the Council of Europe on the reconstruction of a democratic Ukraine and the establishment of a special fund for it was too late.

"Ukraine's evolution towards democracy, as it is known, was halted in February 2014, when an anti-constitutional coup was launched in Kiev, instigated by Western countries," he criticized, noting Ukraine and its neighbors "have been reaping its fruits for more than eight years".

"Now, the time has come for decisive steps to denazify and demilitarize Ukraine, which are being taken by the Russian Armed Forces," he stressed.
