BANDUNG - The Bandung SAR team and BPBD Cianjur, West Java, are still trying to find Iwan Setiawan (40), an angler who was reported to have been swept away by the Cijampang River in Bojongpetir Village, Tanggeung District.

Head of the Bandung SAR Office, Deden Ridwansah, said that his team dispatched a team to the location in coordination with the Cianjur BPBD and local officials. The search area is carried out by walking along the edge and middle of the river.

"We immediately sent officers to the location, assisted by volunteers and officers from the Cianjur BPBD, we received reports of victims being carried away by a sudden swift river current, two of the victim's friends tried to help, but to no avail," he said when contacted, Antara, Monday, March 28.

The victim's body was lost in the river current, so the two colleagues reported the matter to the local authorities, including the Bandung SAR Office.

"The victim is a resident of Bojong Nyongsong Village, Bojongpetir Village who went fishing with two of his colleagues," said Deden.

The team focused their search in the middle of the river a few hundred meters from where the victim was first reported missing by the current. Meanwhile, the other group carried out along the river on foot and coordinated with local residents and officials.

"We suspect that the victim's body has been carried far enough by the current, so that other groups are directed to search the upstream part which is a dozen kilometers from the first location reported missing," he said.

Eyewitness friend fishing victim, Usep (36) said he heard a loud bang when the victim's body fell into the river. Efforts to help the victim were fruitless because the victim's body was lost in the swift current of the river.

"We can't do much because the victim's body was swept away by the current and disappeared, so efforts to save the victim can't be done," he said.
