JAKARTA - The construction of the Formula E circuit in the Ancol area, North Jakarta, continues. In its implementation, it turns out that the construction of the track was revised. What is the reason?

The Jakarta Formula E Executive Committee, Irawan Sucahyono, explained that the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) or the International Automobile Federation had assessed that the run-off zone was not up to standard.

This is the result of the FIA's review which has been in Jakarta for the past month. The FIA also asked the committee to improve the run-off zone for safety aspects.

Run off is an area at each corner of the circuit that has a different color from the asphalt track. The run off is made as a marker that makes it easier for racers who get off the track to get back in.

"What is being evaluated is the run-off route, regarding the safety factor. The FIA only stated that there are several things they want to adjust outside the track. It's all about safety," said Irawan when met at the circuit area, Ancol, North Jakarta, Friday, March 25. .

The points of the circuit area that must be repaired are at the first, seventh, thirteenth, and eighteenth corners. The run off asphalt is made to protrude off the track to add to the safety aspect when the electric race car is off the track.

The repair of the run off zone is one of the causes of the delay in the target for the construction of the track. Thus, the construction target, which was originally set at the end of March, becomes early April 2022.

"Because the FIA reviewed yesterday and there were slight changes, it had to be in accordance with the targets set by the FIA, so we have a slight setback in early April for the track," explained Irawan.

After the circuit is completed, PT Jakpro will start installing the stands, paddock or racing team garage, drainage, and other facilities until early May 2022. Thus, all construction of the circuit and other facilities will be completed in May.

Construction of the circuit itself began on February 3, 2022. Currently, the progress of paving the electric car racing circuit from zones 1 to 5 has reached 87 percent. The workers are still working on the second layer of asphalt circuit.
