The Flood That Soaked The Banyuwangi Fern Settlement Gradually Receded

BANYUWANGI - Floods still haunt the people of Banyuwangi, East Java. The latest flood occurred in the Pakis Rowo neighborhood, Pakis Village, Banyuwangi.

The flood waters reached 40 cm and inundated 160 houses. Floods also inundated educational facilities so that school activities stopped.

Head of the Emergency and Logistics Division of the Banyuwangi Regency Disaster Management Agency, Rachmat Ari Pratama, said the flood occurred after heavy rains hit the local area on Thursday, March 24.

"Drainage is not able to accommodate the volume of water so it overflows into residential areas," he said, Friday, March 25.

The water level began to gradually recede. Local residents along with a number of elements from the BPBD and the Indonesian National Police have now started to clean up the remnants of the flood.

In addition, assistance in the form of basic necessities and food has also been given to local residents.

"The flood has now receded. The current height is 10 cm. Residents are currently cleaning their houses and some are also drying their mattresses," he said.

Meanwhile, Banyuwangi City Police Chief AKP Kusmin said his party went directly to the scene.

It sent a number of food aid to local residents.

"Because some of the residents' houses have been submerged, even though the food assistance has receded, it is hoped that the food aid can relieve the affected people," he said.
