AMBON - The Search and Rescue Office has deployed planes and ships to search for eight of the 13 victims of a fast boat accident in the waters between Bam and Teor Islands in East Seram Regency (SBT), Maluku Province.

The head of the Ambon Search and Rescue Office, Mustari, said an airplane belonging to the fisheries inspector was deployed to monitor the location of the shipwreck from the air.

KN SAR Abhimanyu and the Panana Navy Ship belonging to the IX Ambon Navy Main Base were also dispatched to the crash site to support search efforts.

"In addition, there is a Whale Patrol Vessel (KP) belonging to the fisheries supervisor which is used to assist search operations in the waters of Baam Island and Teor Island," said Mustari in Ambon City, Antara, Friday, March 25.

The fast boat used by the Teor sub-district head along with six employees of the Inspectorate and Bappeda of SBT Regency and six residents had an accident on March 23, 2022 in the waters between Baam Island and Teor Island.

The fast boat departs from Tanah Baru Village in Kasui Watebula District, heading to Teor District.

Five passengers on the ship, including the head of Teor sub-district, Indah Adhayati Rumakway, survived the accident and eight others are still being searched.

Mustari explained that the Tual SAR Post team carried out a search from the air using the ATR 42-300 PK-YRE aircraft belonging to the Tual Marine and Fishery Resources Monitoring Base (PSDKP).

He added that the second search and rescue unit conducted a search using the Pope's KP and the third search and rescue unit using the KN SAR Abhimanyu headed to Teor Island to carry out SAR operations.

"Hopefully today the joint SAR team can quickly find signs of the victim's presence and the victim can be evacuated safely," said Mustari.
