Support Ministry Of Foreign Affairs To Invite Putin To G20, DPR: Opportunity To Negotiate, Indonesia Don't Be Afraid Of Pressure From The West!

JAKARTA - Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR) supports the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu)'s stance that it will continue to invite all members of the G20, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, to the G20 Summit forum in Bali in October. Member of Commission I DPR RI Golkar Party faction, Dave Akbarshah Fikarno Laksono assessed that Putin's presence was an opportunity for world leaders to negotiate related issues that were happening.

"Putin's presence actually creates an opportunity for these world leaders to negotiate," Dave told reporters on Friday, March 25. The chairman of the Golkar Party's Central Executive Board (DPP) supports the Indonesian government's steadfast stance in inviting Russia in the midst of the rejection of the US and its Western allies. The US said that if Indonesia did not agree to expel Russia, then Ukraine should be allowed to attend the G20 meeting in Bali. According to Dave, the Indonesian government must be proactive in convincing G20 members that the forum is an economic forum, not a political forum.

"So let's not be afraid and want to be pressured by Western countries that were hostile to Putin from the start," said Dave.

Dave said all countries involved in the G20 international forum had an equal position. Therefore, he said, the forum could not be used to create hostility among members.

"The G20 is a union of countries with advanced economic growth in the world. All are equal and this forum cannot be used to create hostility with fellow members," he concluded.

Previously, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) spoke about the planned arrival of Russian President Vladimir Putin to the G20 in Bali. As the presidency, the Republic of Indonesia (RI) is obliged to invite all members of the G20. "It should be underlined, Indonesia's diplomacy is based on principal. Indonesia in chairing various conferences, forums or organizations always adheres to the rules of procedure and the prevailing presidency, including in the G20," said the Special Staff for Strengthening Priority Programs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dian Triansyah Djani, Thursday, March 24.

"Therefore, it is an obligation for all G20 presidents to invite all of their members. We (Indonesia) will continue to carry out our duties as in previous presidencies," he continued.
