SURABAYA - Thousands of online motorcycle taxi drivers who are members of the East Java Online Drivers Rejecting Naughty Applicators (FRONTAL) held a demonstration at the East Java Transportation Service (Dishub) office on Jalan A Yani, Surabaya. The masses demanded that the government revise the basic tariff for ojol.

"The basic tariff is very cheap, because it is below government standards. Currently, the tariff is Rp. 6,400, some even lower. This violates PM 12 and KP 348," said FRONTAL Coordinator, Daniel Lukas Rorong, Thursday, 24 March.

Daniel said this demonstration was a form of disappointment for ojol drivers to the central government as the rule maker in the Minister of Transportation Regulation No. 12 of 2021.

This regulates the Standards for Business Activities and Products in the Implementation of Risk-Based Business Licensing in the Transportation Sector and the Decree of the Minister of Transportation Number 348 concerning Guidelines for Calculation of Service Fees for the Use of Motorcycles Used for the Interest of the Community which are carried out by Applications.

According to Daniel, the government is like a 'toothless tiger' because many applicators who violate these regulations are not dealt with firmly.

The most serious violation felt by the drivers was the issue of tariffs, starting from the minimum limit according to KP 348 zone one which covers the Java area, it should be Rp. 7,000 to Rp. 10,000.

"This rule is like a toothless tiger, the government makes rules but they are violated, this is clearly the applicator and the government is silent," he said.

Therefore, Daniel continued, these ojol drivers asked the government to strictly enforce the rules related to tariff issues. So, there are no more rogue applicators who lower the rates that have been set previously.

"We want the government to bring applicator officials from the center so that they can immediately revise the tariffs that our friends feel are too cheap and violate government regulations," he said.
