Unemployment Rate In Ambon Increases By 25,760 People, The Majority Are From High School To Bachelor Degree

AMBON - The unemployment rate in Ambon City has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic by 11 percent.

"Data as of December 31, 2021, the unemployment rate has increased by 11 percent or around 25,760 people," said Head of the Ambon City Manpower Service, Steiven Patty, as quoted by Antara, Monday, March 21.

According to him, the unemployment rate varies with educational backgrounds, namely high school and undergraduate levels. "The majority of unemployed are high school and undergraduate and aged 25 to 40 years. Most of the workers were laid off due to the COVID-19 pandemic," he said.

He said the high unemployment rate was not proportional to the available job vacancies and became a fairly complex problem.

"This is not an easy matter, because Ambon city is the provincial capital so many people come looking for work in Ambon city," he said.

He explained that various efforts were made by his party, namely, building communication and coordination with various parties to help prepare job opportunities.

"This condition makes us have to work hard, namely to build communication and coordination with various parties so that we can help prepare jobs, because there are jobs, it will automatically have an impact on the unemployment rate," he said.

He added that hard work was needed to further reduce the unemployment rate in Ambon while hoping that the COVID-19 pandemic would end.

"Hopefully the pandemic will end so that there will be more economic movement, and opportunities for job seekers," said Steiven.
