BANJARMASIN - Sub-directorate 1 of the South Kalimantan Police's Drug Investigation Directorate thwarted an attempt to smuggle one kilogram of crystal methamphetamine brought by a courier from Central Kalimantan (Central Kalimantan).

"The suspect with the initials ZI (28) who was carrying one kg of crystal methamphetamine was arrested when he entered the area of a hotel in Banjarmasin on Sunday (20/3)," said Director of Drug Investigation at the South Kalimantan Police, Kombes Tri Wahyudi, in Banjarmasin, as reported by Antara, Monday, March 21.

When ambushed, he said, the perpetrator admitted that he had just arrived from Central Kalimantan Province and was ordered to bring along shabu-shabu.

Even so, he explained, the police did not necessarily believe it. The case is still being investigated to uncover the network of dealers who control drug smuggling into Banjarmasin.

"He admitted that he was just a driver, but this case is still being investigated closely regarding the perpetrator's involvement in the distribution network," Tri explained.

For the confiscation of shabu-shabu evidence in a fairly large amount, the suspect was charged by investigators based on Article 114 paragraph 2 Sub-Article 112 paragraph 2 of Law No. 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment.

Head of Sub-Directorate 1 of the Narcotics Directorate of the South Kalimantan Police, AKBP Meilki Bharata, said the team was still investigating inter-provincial syndicates that made South Kalimantan a market for drug trafficking.

"We ask for prayers and support from the community, even the smallest information is very useful for us to uncover any attempts to smuggle narcotics, including their circulation," said Meilki.
