JAKARTA - The NasDem Party supports the PDIP's decision to postpone the implementation of the limited amendments to the 1945 Constitution regarding the Principles of State Policy (PPHN). PDIP's stance is said to be in line with the NasDem Faction.

"It is appropriate that the PDI-P faction of the MPR RI as one of the proponents of the constitutional amendment to include the PPHN decides to postpone the proposed constitutional amendment," said Chairman of the NasDem Faction of the MPR RI, Taufik Basari, Monday, March 21.

"This is in line with NasDem's stance, which from the beginning suggested that this proposed amendment be reviewed and not forced to be implemented at this time," he continued.

Taufik emphasized that since the beginning of the 2019-2024 MPR RI period, the NasDem faction of the MPR RI has criticized the idea of a constitutional amendment that has been raised again in relation to the desire to include PPHN in the fifth amendment of the 1945 Constitution.

According to him, the implementation of the amendments must contain fundamental reasons and be based on the needs of the people.

"To make changes to the 1945 Constitution, there must be a fundamental reason and based on the needs of the people and the nation," he stressed.

Meanwhile, for now, Taufik assesses, there is no urgent need for amendments. He reminded that the implementation of the amendments would open up opportunities for discussions on the presidential term of office for 3 terms or an extension of office through postponing elections.

"Currently, there is no urgent need to make amendments, either to accommodate the PPHN, let alone to open up opportunities for the president's term of office to become 3 terms or an extension of office through postponement of elections," he said.

"The NasDem faction was also the first to warn that the issue of amendments to the PPHN will open Pandora's box of possible impetus for amendments to the presidential term," added Taufik.

In addition, the member of Commission III of the DPR continued, the proposed amendment to the PPHN is still an idea that emerged from the elite and has not yet become a public need. Therefore, he encouraged the implementation of the amendments to be carried out carefully.

"The proposal for amendments related to the PPHN according to NasDem is still an elite idea and has not become a public need. Although the 1945 Constitution does not prohibit constitutional amendments, the amendments must be carried out carefully, with full consideration and based on fundamental needs for the sake of the nation," concluded Taufik Basari. .

Previously, the Chairman of the PDIP DPP as well as the Deputy Chair of the MPR from the PDIP Faction Ahmad Basarah asked that the planned amendment to the 1945 Constitution related to PPHN was not carried out during the 2019-2024 MPR period. This is because PDIP is worried that stowaways will include other agendas in the limited amendment plan.

"It is better if the proposed limited amendment to the 1945 Constitution is not implemented in the 2019-2024 period," said Basarah.
