Restorative Justice Houses Already Exist In 9 Provinces, AGO Hopes Each Case Can Be Resolved Quickly And With Low Cost

JAKARTA - The Attorney General's Office (AGO) has established Restorative Justice Houses throughout Indonesia's high attorney's office as an institution that can resolve cases quickly, simply, and at low cost.

Deputy Attorney General for General Crimes (Jampidum) at the Attorney General's Office, Fadil Zumhana, said that the settlement of cases with the principle of restorative justice received a positive response from the community. So it needs to be institutionalized by the prosecutor's office by forming a Restorative Justice House.

"The hope is the realization of legal certainty that prioritizes justice not only for suspects, victims and their families, but also justice touches the community by avoiding negative stigma," said Fadil in a written statement received in Jakarta, Antara, Sunday, March 20.

The initial stage of Restorative Justice Houses has been formed in nine provinces and was inaugurated by the Attorney General, Sanitiar Burhanudian, last Wednesday, March 16.

The nine restorative justice houses are the North Sumatra Prosecutor's Office, the Aceh Attorney's Office, the South Sulawesi Attorney's Office, the West Sulawesi Attorney's Office, the West Java Attorney's Office, the East Java Attorney's Office, the Central Java Attorney's Office, the Riau Islands Attorney's Office, and the Banten Attorney's Office.

The principle of resolving problems through peace and deliberation, said Fadil, has been applied by the prosecutor's office in stopping prosecutions based on restorative justice that prioritizes peace and conducting deliberation between the suspect and the suspect's family with the victim and the victim's family, witnessed by local community leaders.

The restoration of peace and harmony in society, he continued, is in accordance with the cosmic balance which is the noble value of the Indonesian nation, and increasing the sensitivity of the community and community leaders, both religious leaders, or traditional leaders, in maintaining peace and harmony in their environment.

He hopes that in the future every state attorney throughout Indonesia will have a Restorative Justice House so that all problems can be resolved with the peace efforts of the parties, so that resistance does not occur and peace and harmony will still occur in the community.

According to him, the solution by prioritizing local wisdom is an adaptation of the noble values of the Indonesian nation, namely the value of divinity, humanity, unity, deliberation, mutual cooperation, and the value of justice.

"Muruah Rumah Restorative Justice is in the noble values of the nation so that in its implementation it will be easy to adapt by applying living law in society," he explained.

He emphasized that this was in line with Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin's expectation to make a Restorative Justice House. Not only as a place to solve various problems in the community, but also as a place to discuss and implement government and community programs so that all can use it as the function of the village hall and banjar bale.

So, continued Fadil, with the establishment of the Restorative Justice House, it is hoped that community leaders, both religious and traditional leaders, can play an active role in maintaining peace and cosmic balance in their respective regions. Thus, harmony in society will be maintained in accordance with the noble values that live in Indonesian society.

In addition to the Restorative Justice House, the Attorney General's Office has also established a Restorative Justice Quick Response Task Force with the hotline number RJ 0813-9000-2207. The aim is to provide input to the leadership of the prosecutor's office on cases that deserve restorative justice but are not implemented in the regions, prevent irregularities and misuse of restorative justice implementation in the regions.

"In addition, it opens up opportunities for the wider community to provide constructive criticism, suggestions and input for a better implementation of restorative justice," he said.
