22 Shophouses And Offices Burned During Riots In Dekai Papua

JAYAPURA - A total of 22 shop houses (ruko) and offices were burned and damaged during riots in Dekai, the capital of Yahukimo Regency, Papua, Tuesday, March 15.

Director of Criminal Investigation of the Papua Regional Police, Kombes Faizal Rahmadani, said that two offices were burned, namely the Kominfo and the office of the Investment and One Stop Service Office.

"Indeed, most of the shop houses were burned and damaged," said Faizal, quoted by Antara, Saturday, March 19.

Regarding the suspect, investigators have only named one person as a suspect.

"Indeed, only one person has been arrested and named a suspect, namely L," he said.

For suspect L, investigators already have sufficient evidence so that he is named a suspect and detained at the Yahukimo Police Headquarters in Dekai.

"It's not easy to identify someone as a suspect because investigators will only name someone as a suspect after sufficient evidence is available," continued Kombes Faizal.

The demonstration against the expansion or new autonomous regions (DOB) which took place on Tuesday (15/3), was anarchic as the demonstrators set fire to and threw a number of buildings, including the Kominfo Yahukimo office, whose courtyard was the place where the demonstrators gave speeches.

As a result, preliminary data revealed that two residents died, two were injured by gunfire and two members of the National Police were injured.

The residents who died were Yakob Dell (30) and Erson Weibsa (20), two gunshot wounds, Itos Itlay and Lucky Kobak, and two members of the Yahukimo Police were reported injured, one of whom was Brigadier Muhammad Aldi.
