Good News, National COVID-19 Positive Cases Have Dropped 64 Percent From The Omicron Peak

JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, said that currently positive cases of COVID-19 have decreased by 64 percent from the peak of cases due to transmission of the Omicron variant in mid-February.

"Currently, national positive cases are down 64 percent from the peak, after showing a downward trend for 3 consecutive weeks," Wiku said in a virtual press conference, Thursday, March 17.

At its peak, the weekly number of COVID-19 cases had reached 390,000 cases. However, in the last week, the increase in positive cases has increased to 140 thousand cases per week or has decreased by 250 thousand cases from its peak.

Another good news, continued Wiku, is that the decline in positive cases has also occurred in all provinces of Indonesia. Last week, not a single province experienced a higher number of cases compared to the previous week.

Wiku said that active cases also showed a downward trend for 2 weeks in a row, so far they have fallen to 52 percent from the peak.

"Active cases reached its highest point with 580 percent of cases as of February 24, 2022. Meanwhile, as of March 16, the number of active cases was only 280 thousand cases," said Wiku.

However, the current number of active cases is still much higher, up to three and a half times compared to active cases as of February 1 before the spike in cases occurred.

"In the midst of our success in suppressing the spike in cases, our next big task is policy adjustments made by the government which must be accompanied by increasing public awareness," he added.
