Rocked By Earthquakes Of 5.3 And 4.2 Magnitudes, Sukabumi City BPBD Ensures No Damage

SUKABUMI - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Sukabumi City confirmed that the two earthquake shocks that occurred in Sukabumi City, West Java on Wednesday, March 16, did not have a major impact on residential buildings or public facilities.

"Until now, we have not received any reports of damage caused by the two earthquakes, however, we still instruct all officers to register and be on alert," said Sukabumi City BPBD Chief Executive Imran Whardana in Sukabumi, as reported by Antara.

As is known, in less than an hour, two earthquakes of quite large magnitude rocked the Sukabumi area and its surroundings, the vibrations of which had panicked residents.

According to data released by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the first earthquake occurred at 10.01 WIB with a magnitude (M) 5.3 centered at coordinates 7.94 degrees South latitude - 106.94 degrees East longitude at a depth of 64 km.

Less than an hour after the first earthquake, the residents of Sukabumi were again shocked by the aftershock of a tectonic earthquake at around 11.06 WIB. Although the magnitude is smaller, namely M4.2, the vibrations still surprise residents.

The location of the earthquake is at coordinates 7.9 degrees South Latitude and 107.04 degrees East Longitude or to be precise, it is located at sea at a distance of 109 km southeast of Sukabumi City at a depth of 16 km.

Imran said apart from confirming that there was no damage caused by the tremors of the earthquake. So far, there have been no reports of any injuries or deaths.

"Residents do not need to panic, but remain vigilant because aftershocks could happen again. If there is a shock then immediately leave the house and stay away from large trees and buildings or to open areas, and ensure that no family is left in the house," he said.
