JAKARTA - The Kremlin on Tuesday warned the West that Russia's interests as part of the Iran nuclear deal must be ensured after the United States and its allies imposed sanctions on Moscow over its invasion of Ukraine.

European powers have warned that Russia's demands for guaranteed trade with Iran could undermine efforts to restore the Iran nuclear deal, which lifted sanctions on Tehran in exchange for curbs on its nuclear program.

"Sanctions against Russia directly affect our country's interests in the context of the deal," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

"So, sanctions must be taken into account. This is a new aspect that cannot be ignored, which must be taken into account," Peskov stressed.

Peskov said the United States was aware of Russia's position, that "there is a topic for the continuation of talks, it's really something that is very important to us."

It is known, President Vladimir Putin said special military operations in Ukraine are very important, to ensure Russia's security after NATO admits members to Russia's borders, and Western countries support pro-Western leaders in Kyiv.

Meanwhile, Ukraine says it is fighting for its existence. The United States and its allies in Europe and Asia have condemned the Russian invasion. China has called for calm.
