JAKARTA - The war in Ukraine is likely to end in early May, when Russia runs out of resources to attack its neighbour, Oleksiy Arestovich, an adviser to Ukraine's presidential chief of staff, said late Monday.
Talks between Kyiv and Moscow, in which Arestovich is not personally involved, have so far yielded little result other than a few humanitarian corridors from besieged Ukrainian cities.
In a video published by several Ukrainian media outlets, Arestovich said the exact timing would depend on how much, of the resources the Kremlin is willing to devote to the campaign.
"I think by May, early May, we should have a peace deal, maybe much earlier, we'll see, I'm talking about the latest possible date," Arestovich said, citing Reuters March 15.
"We are at a crossroads now, there will be a peace agreement reached very quickly, within a week or two, with troop withdrawals and everything."
"Or there will be an attempt to engage some, say, Syrians for a second round and, when we fight them too, a deal in mid-April or late April."
A 'really crazy' scenario could also involve Russia sending new conscripts after a month of training, he said.
However, once a peace is agreed, minor tactical clashes could remain possible for a year, according to Arestovich, despite Ukraine's insistence on the complete removal of Russian troops from its territory.
