JAKARTA - PSI politician Mohamad Guntur Romli or Gun Romli has spoken about the repressive actions of the authorities to Doctor Sunardi, who has just become a terrorism suspect. Sunardi was shot dead by the Densus 88 Team on Jalan Bekonang Sukoharjo on March 8.

"There is a question: Sunardi, why was a terrorist suspect just shot dead? Yes, because he resisted," said Gun Romli, quoted from the CokroTV YouTube channel, Tuesday, March 15.

Gun Romli assessed that Sunardi's response when he was about to be secured made the Densus 88 Team take decisive and measured action. The police explained that Sunardi also crashed the vehicle he was traveling in into the cars of officers and residents at the location.

"Just give up, he'll be safe. Why is he running away and trying to fight back anyways?" said Gun Romli.

According to Gun Romli, if Sunardi does not feel guilty for his actions so far, then there is no need to try to run away or fight back when Detachment 88 is being taken into custody.

"This means that Sunardi must feel guilty. If he believes he is innocent, of course he will not run away and fight," he added.

Gun Romli said that in unpredictable conditions, the Densus 88 Team was sometimes faced with narrow choices when it came to eradicating or preventing acts of terrorism.

"We only have a choice in an emergency: dead civilians, dead police officers, or dead terrorists?" he said.

He emphasized that people who have a high spirit of nationalism will choose the completion of terrorist acts such as shooting and killing the perpetrators. This, he continued, was based on his love for Indonesia.

"Those who love the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia will definitely choose, it is better for terrorists to die," he concluded.

The Detachment 88 Team's move to shoot Dr Sunardi dead was indeed a pro and a con. In the near future, the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) will seek more information about Sunardi's death from the police.

The call for clarification is planned for Tuesday, March 15.

Karo Penmas, Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan, said that he would provide all information regarding Sunardi's involvement in the Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) network. In addition, the complete chronology of the resistance that caused the members of Densus 88 to decide to take decisive action.

"Detachment 88 will be present and the summons will come, related to the law enforcement actions of the Densus apparatus against suspects in the SU terrorist crime," Ramadhan told reporters, Monday, March 14.
