Rubber Tengsin Fire Victims Evacuated To Mosque Hall, Village Head Explains Privately Owned Dense Settlement

JAKARTA - Residents of fire victims on Jalan Karet Pasar Baru Timur 5, RT 17/09, Karet Tengsin Village, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, have been evacuated to the Baitul Muttaqin Mosque hall, which is not far from the fire location.

The refugees who were victims of the fire were also reported to have received assistance from the Central Jakarta Social Service Sub-Department (Sudinsos). The aid includes ready-to-eat food, sarongs, blankets, mineral water and others.

The Head of Karet Tengsin, Hari Ananda, said that the burnt settlements were located on private (company) land.

"This land is privately owned. You could say this (settlement) is dense," he said when contacted by reporters, Monday, March 14.

The Central Jakarta City Government has not yet been able to confirm the construction of houses for the affected residents, considering that the land in the location of the fire is privately owned.

"Now the affected people have evacuated," he said.

The village head said that apart from receiving food assistance, residents had also received assistance from the Central Jakarta Social Service Agency such as pampers and mukena.

"The BPBD of DKI Province has also sent (assistance). For now, this is enough, but we will see the situation later," he said.

Previously reported, the Head of the Central Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat Sub-dept.) Asril Rizal explained that the blaze caused the fire to scorch 3 buildings and a number of other semi-permanent rented plots on Jalan Karet Pasar Baru Timur 5, RT 17/09, Kelurahan Karet. Tengsin, Tanah Abang District, Central Jakarta.

"The object that caught fire was a semi-permanent building so that the fire spread quickly. There were no casualties or injuries from this incident," he said when contacted by VOI, Monday, March 14.

From the results of the latest data collection, there are 10 families with 20 people who have lost their homes due to the fire that hit the residents' settlements.

"The problem is narrow road access to the location. Thank God it has gone out," he said.
