Ridwan Kamil Values IKN Has The Opportunity To Become The Best Capital City In The World

JAKARTA - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil said the construction of the National Capital City (IKN) of the Archipelago from the initial stages or from scratch, would be an opportunity for Indonesia to be able to present the best city in the world.

“This is an opportunity to be the best city in the world. So the best is one, in terms of the system, it must be smart (smart city), green (green city), zero carbon (zero carbon), the second is in terms of design," said Ridwan Kamil in the IKN Nusantara zero point area which was broadcast on the Youtube channel. Presidential Secretariat, East Kalimantan, Monday 14 March.

Kang Emil, as he is familiarly called, said the development of the archipelago was also a historic moment for Indonesia because for the first time the country built a city from scratch, or not just moving cities. Therefore, there is an opportunity for the government to design smart and sustainable urban development from the start.

"Usually (cities) that are designed are made by the private sector, if there has never been a state-made city," he said, quoted by Antara.

Kang Emil considers the development of the archipelago with its vision and mission as a modern, smart and green city that takes a relatively long time. Therefore, he hopes that the public will understand that it is impossible to build the archipelago in just 3-5 years.

“From the world's cities, it starts with a vision. The vision has gone wrong 10 years. If it's under 10 years, it's a bit unrealistic, so it takes time. So people don't expect too much, in 3-5 years, I don't think the history of cities in the world is like that either," he said.

He also reminded that there are challenges in getting people to voluntarily move to the archipelago. That way, the government must provide various adequate facilities, so that people voluntarily want to move to the archipelago.

"Because if you only rely on the population of civil servants, the city will be very quiet," he said.

This regional leader with an architectural background believes that the Head of the Archipelago Capital Authority, Bambang Susantono, is able to build the archipelago in accordance with the expectations of many people and also in accordance with President Jokowi's vision and mission.

"I entrusted it to the Head of IKN, Pak Bambang and I are good friends, also in the same school at ITB (Bandung Institute of Technology) and the United States, I am sure he will be successful," he said.
