JAKARTA - The chairman of the DPD RI, AA LaNyalla Mahmud Mattalitti, debunked the claim of Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan that based on big data analysis, there were around 110 million social media users discussing the discourse of postponing the 2024 election.

Not only that, hundreds of millions of social media users are also claimed by Luhut to be active in discussing the discourse of extending the term of office of the President.

LaNyalla denied Luhut's data. The senator from East Java said Luhut's claims were excessive.

"This opinion cannot be justified. "Based on our big data analysis, there are less than 1 million people talking about the 2024 General Election on the biggest platforms in Indonesia, namely Instagram, YouTube and TikTok," LaNyalla said when asked for her opinion on the claim, Saturday, March 12 in a release to the media.

LaNyalla explained, the exact number of accounts involved in the discourse conversation was 693,289 conversations. That number is divided into 87 thousand conversations on YouTube, 134 thousand conversations on Instagram and 454 thousand on TikTok.

"The noisiest social media like Twitter, conversations about elections only involve 17,000 unique accounts," explained LaNyalla.

Precisely from the big data analysis used by the DPD RI, LaNyalla said that election conversations were not as big as conversations between mothers and the general public about the scarcity of cooking oil, sugar and other household commodities.

“In fact, from big data, it can be seen that people are more focused on the scarcity and queues of mothers when buying cooking oil. From the big data, conversations about missing cooking oil from the market reached 3,272,780 conversations," said LaNyalla.

From these data, LaNyalla believes that the opinion of Coordinating Minister Luhut Pandjaitan that there are 110 million social media users talking about postponing elections and extending the term of office of the President is not credible.

LaNyalla also revealed that the negative sentiment in the news about the postponement of the 2024 election tends to increase.

“Until Friday, 11/3/2022 afternoon, the tendency of negative sentiment towards this discourse has increased. The score has exceeded 50 percent when compared to the sentiment score in February 2022. Including an 8 percent increase in anger emotions," concluded LaNyalla.(*)
