Jakarta - An earthquake rocked the Bayah area, Banten. The 5.3 magnitude (M) earthquake occurred on Saturday, March 12, at 12.31 WIB.

Based on information from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) website, the epicenter of the earthquake was 41 km southwest of Banten.

"Location: 7.19 South Latitude, 105.98 East Longitude," wrote the site, warning.bmkg.go.id.

BMKG informed that the earthquake had a depth of 10 kilometers. The shaking did not generate a potential tsunami.

However, to affected communities, BMKG asked to be alert for aftershocks.

"Be careful of aftershocks that may occur," said the information.
