JAKARTA - The police have named 10 people as suspects in the illegal race on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, which was previously viral on social media. The suspects were also given a fine.

"We have taken 10 suspects with fines," said Traffic Director of the Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Sambodo Purnomo Yogo to reporters, Saturday, March 12.

The identities of the suspects were identified based on the vehicle number plates, where investigators used CCTV and E-TLE cameras installed around the scene.

"We searched by using E-TLE cameras along Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin including viewing and taking CCTV along the road," said Sambodo.

"From there we can get an idea of who the perpetrators are, which vehicles are involved. Then we gradually develop so that we can get these 10 people who are suspected of driving the illegal racing at night," continued Sambodo.

After the 10 have been arrested, the investigators also suspect them with Article 297 in conjunction with Article 115 letter b of Law No. 22 of 2009. Thus, they are threatened with 1 year in prison or a fine of Rp. 3 million.

Meanwhile, videos circulated on social media showing illegal racing on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman. They even closed the road access.

In the video, it appears that the perpetrators of illegal races lined up neatly filling the road. Not long after, all the wild racers even then spurred their motorbikes.
