MA Often Circumcise Sentences Of Corruptors Including Edhy Prabowo, Deputy Chair Of The KPK Disappointed: Does Not Reflect The Court's Majesty

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Alexander Marwata admitted that he was disappointed with the decision of the Supreme Court (MA) which often circumcised the sentences of corruptors, including former Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Edhy Prabowo.

According to him, a number of considerations from the Supreme Court that cut the sentences for corruption perpetrators did not reflect the greatness of the institution.

"Indeed, several Supreme Court decisions related to cases handled by the KPK, from our perspective, we are very disappointed with the considerations made by the panel of judges, which don't feel like reflecting the majesty of a court," said Alexander in a press conference broadcast on the Indonesian KPK YouTube, Friday, March 11th.

Although disappointed, Alexander emphasized that his institution still respects the decision made by the Supreme Court Judges. However, the KPK also cannot do much so that whatever is decided must be carried out.

"Whatever the comments, whatever happens if there is no other legal remedy. If there are, of course we will try our best for a review (PK)," he said.

Furthermore, he briefly highlighted the reasons for the consideration of the cassation panel which had circumcised Edhy Prabowo's sentence from 9 years in prison to 5 years in prison. According to him, what was used as the basis for giving a sentence of four years was not appropriate.

As for the cassation consideration, it was explained that Edhy had worked well because Edhy revoked the Regulation of the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Number 56/PERMEN-KP/2016 dated December 23, 2016 and replaced it with the Regulation of the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Number 12/PERMEN-KP/2020 which aims to utilize lobster seeds.

"Well, this is actually a ministerial policy. But it is as if the Supreme Court judged the last minister's policy that it wasn't true. That's why it was corrected and considered this to be a good thing," said Alexander.

Even so, Alexander refused to talk further about the considerations of the cassation panel of judges. "Let the people themselves judge the decision," he said. "From the KPK side, we will see later after receiving the complete verdict," concluded Alexander.
