JAKARTA - The Samarinda City Government responded quickly to the scarcity of cooking oil by holding a bulk cooking oil market operation spread in local villages.

The Mayor of Samarinda Andi Harun ordered the Head of Trade, Marnabas Patiroy to carry out a low-cost market operation by distributing bulk cooking oil directly to all villages.

"Seeing the crowds of women queuing for oil at several minimarkets yesterday, I was worried that it would cause a crowd if the supermarket provided oil stocks, especially since the COVID-19 condition has not subsided, we will distribute the bulk cooking oil directly to the sub-districts," said Andi Harun, Friday March 11, quoted from Antara.

As an anticipation of fraud, he continued, his party will implement a coupon system and include a family card and will cooperate with the TNI and Polri in guarding the distribution process.

He hopes that the distribution of this oil will ease the crowds at supermarkets and that there will be sufficient cooking oil stocks during Ramadan until the upcoming Eid al-Fitr.

Meanwhile, Marnabas said that currently his party is still taking care of licensing to the Ministry of Trade regarding the distribution of bulk oil.

"But while it is running, we have prepared 222,222 liters which we will immediately prepare and will distribute to 59 urban villages in Samarinda City," he said.

Marnabas emphasized that the operation of the low-cost market would be attempted as soon as possible to finish Friday prayers in six urban villages.
