Riots Demo And Beat Police, Papuan Students Arrested

JAKARTA - A number of Papuan students demonstrating at the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) office area were arrested. The reason is that the demonstration turned violent and left police officers injured.

"It is true that there are members who were injured. Meanwhile, there are several people that we want to take to the Metro Police for examination," said the Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes E. Zulpan to reporters, Friday, March 11.

One of the injured members of the Police is the Intel Head of the Central Jakarta Metro Police AKBP Ferikson Tampubolon. He is said to have been the victim of beatings by the mass demonstrations.

However, it is not clear how many students have been arrested so far. Zulpan only said that information regarding this would be conveyed after obtaining complete data.

"The exact number will be after they arrive at the Polda," said Zulpan.

Central Jakarta Metro Police Head of Intel AKBP Ferikson Tampubolon became a victim of the mass beating of the demonstration. As a result, he suffered a puncture wound to the head.

The Sawah Besar Police Chief, Kompol Maulana Mukarom, said the incident occurred at that time when officers were conducting an isolation against Papuan students who wanted to protest to the Minister of Home Affairs.

"Students hit them with blunt objects and with their bare hands," he said.

For information, Papuan students held demonstrations around the Ministry of Home Affairs office. This action follows the plan of the Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, who will divide Papua Province into six administrative regions.

The six proposed provinces include Southwest Papua, West Papua, Central Papua, Central Mountains, South Papua, and Papua Tabi Saireri.
