JAKARTA - A total of 30 units of electric buses that are now operating on four non-Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) TransJakarta routes have undergone various tests for three months and are confirmed to be safe.

Director of Operations and Safety of PT TransJakarta, Yoga explained, for three months the 30 electric buses had undergone various trials ranging from battery life.

"Then we will see how the energy consumption is, then we will test how long the power runs out when it is 'idle' or not operating, we will try that," said Yoga as quoted by Antara, Thursday, March 10.

In testing the electric bus, TransJakarta cooperates with the Ministry of Transportation, which has a testing center.

"We are testing to see if it is compatible with TransJakarta services, especially since the manufacturer claims it lasts 200-300 kilometers. That's why the three-month trial was carried out," said Yoga.

In terms of security and information about electric vehicles on fire when parked, Yoga said, this has also been tested and it can be ascertained that the bus unit is free from these problems.

According to him, the fire when the electric vehicle was parked was due to overcharging the battery. Along with the development, manufacturers have developed a security system on bus battery charging technology.

"It's like a cellphone, from 2000 until now it's really different, a lot of technology has been installed to increase the security of the charging system. And this bus is in accordance with our qualifications," he said.

TransJakarta electric buses have advantages, including noise pollution on this bus, which has the potential to decrease by up to 28 percent compared to diesel buses.

Emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the exhaust gas of electric buses can be reduced by up to 50.3 percent and their energy efficiency has the potential to be five times higher than that of diesel buses.

Based on the information obtained, the 30 electric buses that have been launched are productions from BYD (Build Your Dream) with the brand holder agent being PT Bakrie and Brothers.

A total of 30 buses are operated by PT Mayasari Bakti and operate on non-BRT routes, namely routes 1P (Terminal Senen-Senayan Roundabout), 1R (Tanah Abang-Terminal Senen), 1N (Block M-Tanah Abang), and 6N (Ragunan -Blok M) with operating hours at 06.00-21.00 WIB.
