YOGYAKARTA - The Yogyakarta City Government reminded all tourism actors in the city to tighten health protocols after the government no longer required COVID-19 tests as a condition for land, sea and air travel.

“For Yogyakarta, which is a tourism and educational destination, what needs to be done is to strengthen health protocols. That's the consequence," said Yogyakarta Deputy Mayor Heroe Poerwadi as reported by Antara, Wednesday, March 9.

According to him, as a tourist destination, the city of Yogyakarta will receive guests from various regions, so tourism business actors also need to be involved to ensure that all health protocols are carried out with discipline.

Thus, continued Heroe, even though tourist visits were crowded, it did not increase the potential for virus exposure or an increase in COVID-19 cases in the city of Yogyakarta.

“Inevitably, all tourism business actors must ensure that the health protocols are strictly enforced. Hotels, restaurants, cafes and tourist destinations must follow health protocols," he said.

Tourism business actors, continued Heroe, must ensure that tourists who come always wear masks and keep their distance. "Because it's still at PPKM Level 4, there are capacity restrictions at tourist attractions. This must also be carried out properly," he said.

The one-door system policy that has been implemented since the end of 2021 will also continue to ensure that all tourists who come to Yogyakarta have undergone a complete vaccination.

“Tourists who come by bus must enter Giwangan Terminal for inspection. Must have been vaccinated at least the complete dose," he said.

Random checks on tourism service businesses such as hotels and restaurants will also be carried out to ensure that health protocols are implemented properly.

Heroe requested that a number of regional apparatus organizations such as the Tourism Office, Satpol PP, Transportation Agency, sub-districts, and urban villages increase the supervision of health protocols according to their respective authorities.

On Wednesday (9/3), there were an additional 257 new cases of COVID-19 in the city of Yogyakarta with 242 patients declared cured or completed isolation, and no patient died. Thus, there are 2,757 active cases in the city or a decrease compared to Tuesday (8/3) with 2,761 active cases.
