JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkum HAM) explained the difference between a special tourist visa on arrival (VoA) and a tourist visit visa that the government had just implemented for foreign tourists.

"Foreign tourists who use VoA get a shorter stay than holders of a B211A tourist visit visa," said Sub-Coordinator of Public Relations of the Directorate General of Immigration Achmad Nur Saleh in a written statement from the Directorate General of Immigration, Monday, March 7.

He explained that a visit stay permit for foreign tourists holding VOA is valid for 30 days, and can be extended only once with a period of stay for the next 30 days.

Meanwhile, tourist visit visas can be granted for a period of stay of 60 days. Visit visas can also be extended up to four times.

"In other words, you can stay in Indonesia for a maximum of 180 days," said Achmad.

He conveyed this considering the government has just issued a policy for foreign tourists from 23 countries who want to enter the Island of the Gods without having to quarantine but have to take care of VoA.

In addition, he continued, a visit stay permit originating from VoA cannot be transferred. This is different from the visit visa stay permit, which can be converted into a limited stay permit (ITAS).

"VoA can be submitted without the need for a guarantor or sponsor. That's one of the reasons for the stay permit from VoA cannot be changed to ITAS status," he explained.

To get a special tourist VoA, foreigners who will visit Bali must prepare a passport that is still valid for at least six months.

Then a return ticket or a canal ticket to continue the journey to another country as well as other documents required in accordance with the provisions of the COVID-19 Task Force.
