JAKARTA - The Garut Regency Government, West Java, has begun testing plastic asphalt on a 23 km long road. The goal is to support government programs in tackling plastic waste.

"This is a new breakthrough for the Garut Regional Government to provide services to the community, namely by processing hot mix with plastic, so that we hope the road life will be longer," said Head of the Garut PUPR Service, Luna Aviantrini, at the Garut Regent's Office, Monday, March 7, quoted from Between.

He said the construction of the asphalt road made from a mixture of plastic is an effort by the Garut Regency Government to make the road more durable so that people feel comfortable and safe when passing through it.

If the results are satisfactory, he said, the road construction cooperation using asphalt mixed with plastic materials will be continued for the next two years.

Meanwhile, the road that will use plastic asphalt, he said, will be carried out on several roads such as Jalan Pembangunan, Samarang-Tarogong, and in the city.

"We plan to do this on urban roads within the city, there is a Development Road, there is a Tarogong-Samarang Road, for now, that's all, in stages," he said.

Garut Regent Rudy Gunawan supports a collaborative program in overcoming the problem of plastic waste by using it as a mixture of asphalt in building roads in Garut.

"I hope that this collaboration to overcome the problem of plastic waste can be carried out consistently because protecting the environment is our shared responsibility," said the Regent.

Director of Bakti Barito Foundation Dian Purbasari said the collaboration with the Garut Regency Government in managing plastic waste into asphalt mixture is part of the national target in dealing with plastic waste in an integrated manner.

He conveyed that the road in Garut is approximately 50 km which will be asphalted with a plastic mixture in 2023 and the initial stage of testing is carried out on a 23 km long road in 2022.
