US Secretary Of State Calls Again On Russia-Ukraine Current Situation, Chinese Foreign Minister: The Crisis Can Only Be Overcome Through Dialogue And Negotiations

JAKARTA - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi again had a telephone conversation with United States Foreign Minister Antony Blinken, Saturday, to discuss the current situation in Ukraine.

"The crisis in Ukraine can only be overcome through dialogue and negotiation. China supports all efforts to help ease tensions, find a political solution, and opposes all actions that are not conducive to a diplomatic resolution," Wang told Blinken, as quoted by Antara in a Foreign Ministry statement. China, Sunday.

The telephone conversation between senior diplomats from the two world economic leaders was the second time in two weeks after the two made contact on February 22 to discuss the same issue.

The second call came at a time when China's parliament was holding its two-session annual session (Lianghui), which was attended by President Xi Jinping and a range of executive officials.

The two foreign ministers spoke on the phone after Russia declared a partial ceasefire in the Ukrainian cities of Mariupol and Volnovakha.

"China does not want to see the escalation of the crisis in Ukraine continue to occur," said Wang, who is also a member of the China Governing Council, a position at the level of the coordinating minister.

He hoped that the gunfights would stop as soon as possible and the situation on the ground would subside as soon as possible to prevent the humanitarian crisis from spreading.

China will try to find a peaceful solution and encourage the Russian side and the Ukrainian side to negotiate directly.

"Although negotiations may be tough, the international community must continue to cooperate and support bilateral talks until their negotiations bear fruit and peace can be agreed," he said.
