BANDARLAMPUNG - The Kedaton Sector Police (Polsek), Bandarlampung City, Lampung, arrested a counterfeit money dealer with the initials MA.

"A total of 21 counterfeit notes in the Rp50,000 denomination were successfully secured by the officers from the perpetrators, who are residents of Seputih Mataram, Central Lampung Regency," said Kedaton Police Chief Kompol Atang Samsuri as reported by Antara, Saturday, March 5.

The perpetrators of the counterfeit money dealers were arrested by officers after receiving reports from the public that the perpetrators bought credit using money that was suspected to be counterfeit.

"The perpetrator's actions were revealed when he spent fake Rp. 50,000 notes at one of the counters in the jurisdiction of the Kedaton Police on Thursday (4/3) night at 22.30 WIB after there was a report from the victim," he said.

Kompol Atang said the owner of the counter, who was a victim of the perpetrator's actions, was initially suspicious of the money paid by the Supreme Court and immediately examined it.

"Because the money did not match the characteristics of real money, the victim then reported the incident to the Kedaton Police and immediately followed up by securing the perpetrator and evidence," he said.

From the hands of the perpetrators, said Kompol Atang, the police managed to secure evidence in the form of 21 pieces of counterfeit banknotes in the Rp 50,000 denomination and 1 unit of mobile phone and other evidence.

"According to the perpetrator's confession, he got the counterfeit money by buying it online for Rp. 350,000 and getting Rp. 1,050,000 of counterfeit money," he said.

Kompol Atang said the perpetrators of the counterfeit money dealers were charged with Article 245 of the Criminal Code with a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.

"I urge the public to always be careful and more thorough if someone wants to buy or use money at night, and if they find something similar, they should immediately report it to the police," he said.
