JAKARTA - The Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) found several types of illegal strong drugs that are sold freely. This finding was followed by an operation to confiscate evidence and determine the suspect who produced the drug.

This illegal male tonic is packaged in the form of coffee. The production is carried out in Bogor City and Bandung Regency, then sold online through buying and selling platforms, one of which is Tokopedia.

In a press conference on the prosecution of illegal strong drugs, the Head of BPOM Penny K. Lukito exhibited a number of brands that were used as evidence of processed food and traditional medicines.

A number of brands that were found included Kopi Jantan, Kopi Cleng, Kopi Bapak, Spider, Urat Madu, and Jakarta Bandung. Pennny said the claims listed on the drug packaging were not true to the facts.

"This is a very dangerous claim. It promises to be accompanied by extracts of coffee and Indian ginseng, to increase strength and so on," said Penny.

Penny emphasized that this strong drug was produced in an illegal place, did not comply with the proper production methods of traditional medicine and food, was unhygienic in its production, and contained medicinal chemicals that should not be used in processed food or traditional medicine.

Penny revealed that this strong drug in coffee packaging contains medicinal chemicals, namely sildenafil and paracetamol. In this case, sildenafil is a type of drug commonly used to treat erectile dysfunction or impotence in men. While paracetamol is a drug to reduce fever.

“Medicinal chemicals such as paracetamol and sildenafil are materials used for drug production. If not used in accordance with the rules of use (dose), these medicinal chemicals can pose a high risk and side effects that can endanger health," he explained.

The danger is, the use of these illegal medicinal chemicals can cause heart problems, liver disorders, and endanger the reproductive organs of anyone who consumes them, and other disorders that can cause death.

From the results of this action, Penny said that the police had named two suspects who produced the strong medicinal coffee.

"From this enforcement operation, we have found two suspects. Then we found whatever was violated, the production facilities were illegal, and the label stated that it had received a distribution permit from the POM but it was fake," added Penny.
