Police Arrest 5 Perpetrators Of Smuggling Illegal Migrant Workers In North Sumatra

MEDAN - The Coal Resort Police, North Sumatra Regional Police, arrested five perpetrators of smuggling illegal Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) to Malaysia by sea.

"The five perpetrators each have the initials JS (27), SMP (33), Br (34), KM (39) and AMD (18)," said Coal Police Chief AKBP Jose DC Fernandes as quoted by Antara, Thursday, March 3.

The five perpetrators were arrested after his party foiled the smuggling of 34 illegal PMI candidates who were about to depart for Malaysia by sea on Monday, February 7.

Officers then carried out development and managed to catch the five perpetrators in their hiding place.

"The perpetrators who were arrested acted as recruiters, reservoirs and those who dispatched illegal PMIs to Malaysia," he said.

The five perpetrators were subject to Article 2 paragraph (1) and paragraph (2) subsidiary Article 10 subsidiary Article 11 of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 21 of 2007 concerning the eradication of the crime of trafficking in persons.

"Or Article 81 in conjunction with Article 69 subsidiary Article 83 Jo. Article 68 of Law Number 18 of 2017 concerning the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers in conjunction with Article 55 and Article 56 of the Criminal Code," he said.
