JAKARTA - The West Jakarta City Government (Pemkot) plans to relocate 160 street vendors (PKL) in the Petak Sembilan area, Tamansari to the Glodok market to restore the function of roads in the area so that residents can return to it.

"Our plan is to relocate 160 street vendors to Glodok Market to restore the function of the road in Petak Sembilan so that residents can pass it," said Tamansari Sub-district Head Agus Sulaeman, Wednesday, March 2.

Agus said the relocation was carried out because the Petak Sembilan road used by street vendors (PKL) made cars and motorbikes unable to pass.

In fact, the road is expected to be passable by vehicles when the MRT station construction project in Taman Sari is completed.

Agus continued, the majority of traders agreed to be relocated after in the previous meeting the sub-district gave three options.

The first option, Agus offers street vendors to be relocated to Glodok Market which is under the auspices of PD Pasar Jaya. Second, it offers street vendors for revitalization or arrangement.

"If the arrangement has to look for 'CSR' (corporate social responsibility) and finding it is not easy. Finally, if you want to arrange it, I say the costs are their own, they seem unable to do it," he explained.

The last option is enforcement.

Agus assesses that street vendors are more inclined to the choice of relocating to Glodok Market. To finalize the plan, Agus and representatives from PKL and PD Pasar Jaya will hold a meeting on Monday, March 7 to determine the rental price per kiosk.

"We also ask PD Pasar Jaya not to burden traders too much. So, I hope it's not too expensive," he explained.

Street vendors in this area are sellers of various snacks, meat, fish and vegetables. They occupy the sides of the road on the right and left, so that coupled with the buyers, the road is closed.
